World TB Day

On the 24th March we celebrate the anniversary of when Dr. Robert Koch announced that he had discovered the bacterium that causes TB, the TB bacillus.  This opened the way towards diagnosing and curing this disease. World TB Day is held every year on March 24th with the aim of raising awareness about tuberculosis (TB) among health professionals and the public and to support global efforts to prevent and control TB. The day is an occasion to rally political and social commitment for further progress towards eliminating TB as a public health burden.

136 Years later and despite significant progress over the last decades, TB continues to be the top infectious killer worldwide, claiming over 4 500 lives a day. The emergence of multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) poses a major health security threat and could risk gains made in the fight against TB.

Our partner Ab Analitica have developed a Kit for detection and quantification of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) by Real-Time PCR

The kit includes:

  • Reagents for Real-Time PCR
  • Amplification control (amplification of the beta-globin gene – BG)
  • Internal control (for acellular samples)
  • Positive controls (DNA containing fragments of MTBC genome and the BG gene)
  • dUTP/UNG system for preventing carry-over contamination
  • Dye for fluorescence normalization
